How will Apple change in September under its new CEO — [former hardware chief John Ternus](https://apple.slashdot.org/story/26/04/20/221244/apple-ceo-tim-cook-is-stepping-down)? The blog _Geeky Gadgets_ is already expecting "[significant updates to the iPhone over the next three years](https://www.geeky-gadgets.com/iphone-evolution-2026/)," as well as streamlined internal engineering (plus durability enhancements and high-capacity batteries). **2026:** Foldable display **2027:** Bezel-less iPhone 20 (celebrating the iPhone's 20th anniversary) CNET's web sites (which include ZDNET, PCMag, Mashable and Lifehacker) are even [hosting a contest](https://www.cnet.com/tech/what-will-apple-do-next-guessing-game-2026/) "to see which of our readers can make the best Apple predictions for 2026. Answer five questions in any of our three rounds of the contest to be entered to win \[$applePrize\] in September." But the blog _9to5Mac_ already has [a list of new upcoming Apple products](https://9to5mac.com/2026/04/23/apple-has-six-major-new-product-categories-coming-says-mark-gurman/), courtesy of Bloomberg's Mark Gurman (who appeared [on the TBPN podcast](https://www.youtube.com/live/CD9iwAqesrY) this week "to talk about Apple's CEO transition, what to expect from John Ternus, and more." _As part of the conversation, Gurman said: "There are six major Apple products in development right now, six major new product categories." Here's the full list he shared: 1. AI AirPods 2. Smart glasses 3. Pendant 4. Smart display 5. Tabletop robot 6. Security camera_ _\[...\] Gurman has [reported](https://9to5mac.com/2026/02/17/apple-accelerating-work-on-three-new-ai-wearables-per-report/) on the Pendant before as a new AI wearable that's an alternative to AI AirPods and Glasses. All three products are expected to rely heavily on a paired iPhone for Siri and other AI features. The smart display ('HomePad'), tabletop robot, and security camera are all brand new Apple Home products._ The AI features arrive "[thanks to the revamped Apple Foundation Models trained by Google Gemini](https://appleinsider.com/articles/26/04/26/apples-ai-push-alone-will-generate-three-new-hardware-categories)," reports the _AppleInsider_ blog (citing Gurman's _Power On_ newsletter at Bloomberg). The smart doorbell camera will include "an Apple Intelligence-upgraded version of the facial recognition already included with HomeKit Secure Video. Today, HSV can utilize the Apple Home admin's tagged faces in their Photos app to label people that are viewed on the camera. When a known person rings the doorbell, Siri will announce them by name over the HomePod chime."

Where does [Apple](https://www.theguardian.com/technology/apple) – perhaps the most iconic tech company on Earth – go next? Last week its CEO, [Tim Cook](https://www.theguardian.com/technology/tim-cook), stood down after 15 years. As US Guardian tech editor **Blake Montgomery** explains, when Cook took over after the death of the charismatic Steve Jobs, there were doubts he could build on his predecessor’s success. Apple just registered a new subdomain record: genai.apple.com. The domain was spotted by a _MacRumors_ contributing researcher, and though it doesn't yet lead to a live web page, they believe it's [tied to Apple's annual developers conference](https://www.macrumors.com/2026/05/23/apple-gen-ai-subdomain/) WWDC which starts June 8, "where the company has [promised to announce 'AI advancements](https://www.macrumors.com/2026/03/23/wwdc-2026-ai-advancements/)' across its software platforms." The blog _9to5Mac_ speculates that "All signs point to WWDC 2026 being Apple's major AI renaissance, where the company will live up to the promises it made back at WWDC 2024, as well as a few additional new announcements." _\[I\]it goes without saying that this is probably related to Apple's upcoming generative AI announcements at WWDC... The [outgoing](https://www.wired.com/story/tim-cook-stepping-down-ceo-apple-john-ternus/) Apple leader will shepherd a keynote address announcing new software features for Siri, iOS, and Apple’s artificial intelligence efforts. It’s likely to be a final look at the company’s vision from the leader who focused on [turning Apple](https://www.wired.com/story/apple-tim-cook-subscription-business/) into a dominant subscription business. The WWDC keynote kicks off Monday, June 8, at 10 am PT (1 pm Eastern). You can watch the livestream right here on this page, or on Apple’s [WWDC website](https://developer.apple.com/wwdc26/). Here’s what to expect from Apple’s announcements at WWDC. AI OS ----- As it does just about every WWDC, Apple is bound to announce new software operating systems for its products. These should all have the OS 27 moniker, as Apple recently adopted the car industry naming strategy of labeling its operating systems for the year ahead. That means iOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, and so on. Apple seems keen to boost performance across its operating systems, prioritizing fixes and stability over big new features. There are bound to be a bundle of AI infusions, branded as Apple’s Intelligence features. Siri Supersized --------------- Everybody’s waiting for the big Siri glow-up. Apple’s virtual assistant has been the company’s [problem child](https://www.wired.com/story/its-time-to-kill-siri/) for a while now, frequently more frustrating than actually useful. It was supposed to be revamped with Apple Intelligence a few years ago, but was delayed. Now, at long last, Apple is expected to announce its big Siri update, boosted by a partnership with Google to infuse Siri with its Gemini AI. Apple and Google’s partnership has been in the works since 2024, but neither company confirmed the details until a [joint statement](https://blog.google/company-news/inside-google/company-announcements/joint-statement-google-apple/) in January that spelled out a “multi-year collaboration” to boost Apple Intelligence features with Google Gemini. That statement also promised “a more personalized Siri coming this year.” WWDC seems like a good time for such news to come out. AI boosts in Siri have already been very confrontational, like in May when Apple agreed to [pay $250 million](https://www.wired.com/story/apple-will-pay-dollar250-million-to-settle-lawsuit-over-siris-ai-features/) to iPhone 15 and 16 owners who had never gotten Siri’s long-promised AI smarts. Last week, Gurman again [leaked some details](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2026-05-28/apple-ios-27-photos-screenshots-revamped-siri-pro-camera-app-new-ai-features) about Apple’s potential changes to Siri. These include a darker interface in a dedicated Siri app, a dedicated spot in Apple’s Dynamic Island at the top of iPhone screens, and the chatbot-like capabilities enhanced by Google’s Gemini AI. It sounds like Apple is doubling down on Siri and putting it front and center in the iPhone interface. Apple Hardware -------------- After its [expensive misstep](https://www.wired.com/story/the-vision-pro-was-an-expensive-misstep-now-apple-has-to-catch-up-with-smart-glasses/) with the Apple Vision Pro, it’s possible Apple may tease something about its upcoming smart glasses, which have not been officially confirmed to be in production, but are [expected](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/newsletters/2026-05-31/apple-glasses-late-2027-release-watch-comparison-ios-28-apple-tv-homepod) to arrive sometime next year. Apple doesn’t usually show off new hardware at its developer conference, but it has happened before, as with the [Vision Pro reveal in 2023](https://www.wired.com/review/apple-vision-pro/). Apple may also announce a split-screen feature on its iPhones, which is neat, but perhaps more importantly, there’s a sliver of evidence that an Apple [foldable device](https://www.wired.com/story/apple-folding-iphone-right-move-at-the-right-time/) is coming later this year. Looking at Apple’s software tinkering is a decent way to divine what’s coming next, as its mobile operating system [already has software](https://www.wired.com/story/your-iphone-already-has-iphone-fold-software-but-apple-wont-let-you-use-it/) features that could support a folding device. There don’t seem to be any new Mac computer announcements on the way, but those are more likely to come at Apple’s fall events anyway. There have also been rumors about Apple [putting cameras into its AirPods](https://www.wired.com/story/why-apple-might-put-cameras-into-its-next-airpods). There might be a tease for that, but it’s unlikely.

During the keynote, the company will announce all of the changes coming to the software that powers [iPhones](https://www.wired.com/tag/iphone/), [Macs](https://www.wired.com/tag/mac/), [Apple Watches](https://www.wired.com/tag/apple-watch/), and the rest of Apple's hardware. This year's headline is expected to be around Siri, and the long-awaited improvements coming to Apple's long-lived voice assistant. Sometimes, Apple will make a surprise announcement during the WWDC keynote for a new hardware or software platform—for example, we first learned about the [Apple Vision Pro](https://web.archive.org/web/20250609150604/https://www.wired.com/story/apple-vision-pro-specs-price-release-date/) during the 2023 WWDC keynote. This year, we're only expecting software announcements, though these will likely revolve around artificial intelligence (or as Apple calls it, [Apple Intelligence](https://www.wired.com/story/apple-intelligence-is-gambling-on-privacy-as-a-killer-feature/)).
